He got his start behind the camera. After graduation from Ball State University, in Muncie, Indiana, Bill went to work for WTTV-TV in Indianapolis as an editor and photojourrnalist.
He continued honing his camera skills with WTLV-TV in Jacksonville, Florida and again in Louisville, Kentucky at WHAS-TV. It's there that Bill's stories; with their unique titles begin winning titles of their own. Stories like "All you'd need be the soap" which included a drenched Kentucky woman on a water ride, who after getting soaked, looks at the camera and says, "If we needed a bath, then all we need be the soap."
Those human-interest stories, serious stories, and emotional stories helped Bill earn three consecutive Kentucky News Photographer of the Year titles. The National Press Photographers association named Bill their Regional Photographer of the year, and finalist for National Photographer of the Year.
The move to "America's Finest City" included a move to in front of the camera for Bill, reporting on the very first broadcast of "News in the Morning" when it debuted in 1996. "The most important things in my life have happened since I moved to San Diego" Bill is referring to his marriage to wife Dorothy, and the birth of their two girls, Kylie and Madison.
Professionally speaking, San Diego has been good to Bill as well. Bill won the prestigious Edward R. Murrow award in the spring of 2003. Other awards include 13 Emmy's including one for journalist enterprise, two Golden Mike awards, and numerous San Diego Press Club awards including a "Best of Show."
Bill gives back to the community he now calls home in many ways. He is the annual host of The San Diego Blood Bank's, Gift of Life 5-k run, and he hosts a number of community based award banquets including The Combined Health Agency's Health Hero's Awards.
